Man flown to hospital after fall from cliffs above Black's Beach [Breaking]
A 40-year-old man was hospitalized Monday afternoon after falling about 50 feet from a cliff at the south end of Black’s Beach, authorities said.
Fire crews and lifeguards responded to the report of the fall just after 2 pm. It occurred near the Mushroom House, San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Matt Nilsen. The structure is a well-known La Jolla-area landmark. A Fire-Rescue helicopter carried the man from the beach to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Lolla, Nilsen said.According to radio traffic, the hiker was conscious and breathing when rescuers reached him. Crews opted to use the helicopter to get him to the hospital more quickly than they could by carrying him to a waiting ambulance.
