A man, upset after his tenancy agreement was cancelled, defaced the Robin Hood Statue in Nottingham city centre with graffiti. He was traced and admitted responsibility for the criminal damage. The 49-year-old was issued with a Community Resolution. Nottingham City Council officials cleaned the graffiti the day after the incident.

A man left upset after his tenancy agreement was cancelled went on to deface the Robin Hood Statue in the city centre with graffiti. He vandalised the Castle Road landmark on the afternoon of September 28.

An anarchy sign was daubed on the sculpture and the man was recognised on CCTV footage by a neighbourhood officer at Central Police Station. The culprit was traced and admitted responsibility for the criminal damage after attending a voluntary interview on October 18. Police say he told officers he regretted his actions and explained he was upset at the time of the offence having just lost his tenancy agreement. The 49-year-old, who has not been named by the force, was issued with a Community Resolution, which can be used by police forces to deal with low level offending. Such resolutions involve some form of reparation, such as a letter of apology, a promise to pay for any damage or attend a victim awareness course.

It's not the first time the statue has been damaged. Back in 2019 the arrow was left bent after an attack just weeks after its broken bow had been repaired. The Robin Hood statue was sculpted by James Woodford and gifted to the city in 1952 by local businessman Philip E F Clay.
