A 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of a large-scale disturbance in Rutherglen. The incident unfolded on Farmeloan Road on Tuesday evening.
Police were called to Farmeloan Road around 7pm on Tuesday after the violence broke out. A 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are treating the death as 'suspicious' with investigations ongoing to establish the circumstances. A number of officers remain on the scene with residents living inside the cordon are being asked to sign in and out. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7pm on Tuesday, 24 October, 2023, we were called to reports of a disturbance on Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen. Emergency services attended and a 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.“A 39 year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with possessing an offensive weapon. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, 26 October, 2023.
"Closures are in place on Farmeloan Road and Victoria Street. Drivers are urged to use an alternative route."
