Manchester City are enjoying a rare advantage over the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool this week.
It took Manchester City an energy-draining 61 matches to claim their historic treble last year, in a season which also had a World Cup wedged in the middle of it. Pep Guardiola's side have even more on their plate this time around.
So when Guardiola didn't shed any tears at City's early elimination from the Carabao Cup last month, it was hardly surprising. The competition is usually one City want to win and the way to better a treble is by claiming a quadruple. Yet, this time around the Blues boss didn't rank it as a priority. Had City have advanced, they would have had their second Manchester derby in three days this week. While it would have been incredibly funny to see the despair at Old Trafford over the prospect of being given the run around for another 90 minutes by their neighbours, it's still a taxing match that City are better off without.
