A man has been arrested in South Belfast in connection with an attempted hijacking and the discovery of a suspicious device in Derry.
Police investigating reports of an attempted hijacking in the Hollymount Park area of Derry on Friday, February 17, and the discovery of a suspicious device in the Corrody Road area of the city on Saturday, February 18, have arrested a 21-year-old under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act.Read more: Explosive device 'recklessly left metres away from children playing football'
Police have said that searches are currently ongoing in the Belfast, Omagh and Derry areas as part of their investigation. A PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating a report of an attempted hijacking in the Hollymount Park area of Derry/Londonderry on Friday, 17th February and the subsequent discovery of a suspicious device in the Corrody Road area on Saturday, 18th February have arrested a man.
"The 21-year-old man was arrested in the south Belfast area. He has been arrested under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and remains in police custody assisting with enquiries.
