Wendy Duan, pictured in a green shirt, was a volunteer with the Houston-based Social Good in Action Inc. nonprofit organization, according to leaders there.A man accused of fatally shooting a popular Alief Independent School District teacher he had been dating for a week was found dead from a suspected suicide in a Louisiana jail, according to the city of Sugar Land.
Charvas Thompson, 26, was found dead last month in the Caddo Parish jail, according to Doug Adolph, spokesperson for the city. He had been facing a murder charge in connection with the slaying of Wendy Duan outside her Sugar Land home.Sugar Land police in January found Duan in the back yard of a home in New Territory, shortly after neighbors called to report hearing gunshots. Witnesses told police Duan and a man had gotten into an argument that ended with the shooting, officials said.
Investigators identified Thompson in connection with the fatal shooting after talking with several witnesses, reviewing video and confirming his vehicle based on license plate recognition. Police tracked Thompson to Shreveport, Louisiana, several days after Duan’s death, where he was arrested. He was awaiting extradition to Texas at the time of his death.
