Male shooting victim found by dumpsters in parking lot behind Italian Village businesses
Columbus police homicide detectives are looking for three individuals in connection with the discovery of a body Monday morning by dumpsters behind a small strip shopping center on North 4th Street in the city's Italian Village neighborhood.A passerby who called 911 shortly before 4:20 a.m. Monday reported a dead man lying near the dumpsters with a lot of blood around the victim's head. Columbus police and Division of Fire medics responded to the scene.
Homicide detectives reported Monday afternoon that the victim was killed about two hours before he was found. Surveillance video shows the victim walking back to the dumpsters at approximately 2:24 a.m. Monday, accompanied by another male wearing a red shirt with white writing, long black pants and black shoes, detectives said in a release.
At the same time, a female wearing a black shirt with a light design on the front, light shorts and white slides is seen in the video running southeast across the parking lot from Hamlet Street toward the dumpster. After reaching the dumpster, the shooting apparently occurs as detectives report all three of the other individuals almost immediately flee on foot from the victim.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the three individuals. They are asking residents in the area to check their Ring doorbell or other surveillance video for all or any of the three individuals described here and to submit a copy to investigators using this link: https://ColumbusPDOH.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/230465983.
