Going to a concert at the O2 is already so far from “rock ’n’ roll” that once you’re there, you might as well not bother. It’s in the arse end of nowhere, a no-man’s land of motorways and industrial estates, so you have no choice but to hunker down for the whole evening in the sprawling complex of chain restaurants and strange outbuildings.
I digress. But the point is that at big stadium shows – because much of this applies to most of the country’s biggest venues – it’s over before it’s even begun. “It” being, of course, the ancient art of rock ’n’ roll.
