Plus, the French luxury fashion conglomerate is distributing the sanitizer to the French health authorities free of charge.

is doing its part to help stop the spread in a very surprising, but oh-so welcome, way. This weekend, it was announced that the luxury fashion conglomerate has converted the facilities it usually uses to produce cosmetics for the likes of Dior and Guerlain into production hubs for hand sanitizer. Perhaps even more impressively, the company announced in a statement that the sanitizer produced will be distributed to French public health authorities at no cost.

“Through this initiative, LVMH intends to help address the risk of a lack of product in France and enable a greater number of people to continue to take the right action to protect themselves from the spread of the virus,” the company said in a. “The gel will be delivered free of charge to the French health authorities and as a priority from this Monday to the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris.

This isn’t the first time LVMH has stepped in to aid in this time of crisis, having previously donated 16 million renminbi to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation to help alleviate medical supplies shortages earlier on in the outbreak. Others in the Italian luxury fashion industry have also rallied in recent days including Donatella Versace who donated 200,000 euros to the intensive care unit at San Raffaele hospital in Milan this weekend and Giorgio Armani who donated almost CAD$2 million to various Italian hospitals and medical institutions.
