The Loyal head into the final four games of the USL regular season locked into a three-way tie in the Western Conference standings
It was a prime opportunity to leapfrog two rivals in the standings and move closer to locking in a home playoff match.
Coach Nate Miller’s team is still well situated to snag one of those top four seeds. But not taking advantage of a home game against perhaps the worst team in the league — Las Vegas improved to 3-18-10 with the tie — had to sting a bit. The counterattack Miller referenced took place in the game’s 16th minute, when Las Vegas goalkeeper Alan Diaz gathered the ball and rocketed a kick that traveled deep into the San Diego end, where it was gathered by Azriel Gonzalez.
San Diego pushed for the go-ahead goal much of the second half and almost got it when Ronaldo Damus nearly scored on a header off a nice feed from Joe Corona but saw his shot go just wide.
