Love Island’s Paige Thorne reveals she had to quit her job to join the show
"I said to my manager 'It's a massive opportunity, is there any way I can do it?' I tried taking annual leave, I tried unpaid leave, I tried a career break, I tried every single avenue possible to keep my job as well as do, but, unfortunately, because paramedics and the ambulance service and the NHS in general get such bad backlash and press about waiting times and being understaffed.
"I think, from a management perspective, they were like, 'Yes, we want to fully support you' [but] I think they couldn’t risk me going in not knowing me as a person, obviously higher-up they don’t [who] I was as an individual employee." "I think they were worried that I went in and then it's like, 'Oh, the NHS is struggling this much and paramedics are struggling this much and you've let one take all this time off to go into,' it might've created more bad press and bad backlash that they just didn't need.
