Residents in Lostock Hall are objecting to plans to build 50 news homes due to flood concerns 🌧️

The development would see the affordable homes built on the site of the former Lostock Hall Primary School in Avondale Drive.

However residents in Marilyn Avenue and Maureen Avenue fear the new homes would add to existing drainage issues that have caused their homes to be damaged from flooding in the past.A spokesperson for the residents said: “We have suffered serious flooding issues over the years on numerous occasions, due to the inability of the drainage in Wilkinson Street to cope with the extra surface water from persistent heavy rain.

“While the plans show that the new houses would be raised to prevent problems in them, the gardens would not be. This will allow the water to drain into the surface water sewer in Wilkinson Street, adding to the existing problem for the properties in Marilyn Avenue and Maureen Avenue.

The spokesperson continued: “I feel there has been lack of consultation with residents in the area surrounding the site, and therefore the applicants have ignored the significant impact on the area that will be created by this development. “South Ribble Borough Council’s Development Plan Document from July 2012 lists the site as being suitable for 30 dwellings. With the applicants proposing 50 homes, there would be a significant over intensification of the site, and the plan is clearly not respectful of neighbour separation.The planning application can be viewed on the
