A mechanical issue on an NJ Transit train on Monday night caused smoke and a small fire in the locomotive, an official said. Raritan Valley Line train 5451 was stopped at the Westfield staton when the problem was noticed at 8:45 p.m., NJ Transit said. No one was injured and the 40 passengers were transferred to a train that departed Westfield at 9:30 p.m.
