In elementary school, Michigan sisters Mena and Zena Nasiri were each assigned a project to profile a historical figure they admired. Mena chose Fatima al-Fihri, a young Arab Muslim woman credited with establishing the world's very first university in 859 AD. Zena selected Turkish aviator Sabiha Gökçen, who became the first female fighter pilot at age 23.
