Xabi Alonso looks set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season and so Liverpool have begun the search for alternative options, which may include Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim
It seems Xabi Alonso’s name will not be announced over the Anfield tannoy next season with the Spaniard planning to stay at Bayer Leverkusen despite interest from Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said the Bavarians anticipate it being “impossible” for the club to lure Alonso this summer. And Alonso himself confirmed on Friday that he will be staying with Leverkusen next season. Amorim played a straight bat when asked about Liverpool links in February. He said: "I'm not going to dwell on my future, I've already said what I had to say. Every time I talk about it the topic comes up again."
"When I hear that big teams are interested in me it is an honour," he said. "I am proud, but my focus is on my work day-by-day."
