Liverpool John Lennon Airport has paid tribute to two young pilots who were tragically killed in a terrible crash on the M62. Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24, lost their lives when the taxi they were travelling in was involved in a crash with two lorries at 5.30am on Thursday, July 11. The two men, who both worked for Ryanair , had been on their way to the airport when the crash occurred.

Mr Fernandes, from Bolton, joined Ryanair as a first officer in May this year after previously holding positions as a junior first officer and second officer, according to his LinkedIn page. He attended Buckinghamshire New University and Bolton School, followed by pilot training at CAE in Quebec.
