Don Cornwell has spoken on why Dynasty Equity took a minority position in Liverpool for its first deal
The founder of new Liverpool minority partner Dynasty Equity has explained the reason why the firm landed on the Reds for its very first deal.
In ridding themselves of that debt on the balance sheet, and the interest payments that came with it, it is a move that will allow greater financial flexibility for Liverpool, something that could have a knock-on effect when it comes to transfer spend, purely through freeing up funds that had previously been drained.
“When we started Dynasty we wanted the firm to be viewed as global, and so early on as we were looking for potential first deals it was important for us that it was something to put our brand on the map, but most importantly we wanted to make sure it was a good deal,” explained Cornwell, speaking at the Sportico Invest in Sports Conference in New York on Wednesday, where the ECHO were present.
Cornwell explained why he and co-founder Nelson had moved to form their own firm, and what the approach of Dynasty would be moving forward at a time when private equity is waking up to sport as an asset class.
