Liverpool Academy chief Alex Inglethorpe is reportedly “in the frame” for the Rangers director of football role.
The Ibrox side haven’t had someone in that position since Ross Wilson departed for Nottingham Forest last season but Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove admitted after Philippe Clement’s appointment that the club were in talks over filling the vacancy. And now The Scottish Sun report that Inglethorpe is someone under consideration. The 51-year-old moved to Anfield just over a decade ago after spending six years at Tottenham Hotspur. Inglethorpe, who was a player at Watford, was initially Under-21s manager but stepped up to oversee the Academy. Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard worked under him during his time with the Liverpool youths before moving to Ibrox.
Brighton's head of recruitment Sam Jewell was linked with the Rangers director of football role recently and Bisgrove said after Clement's appointment: “We feel we have got a really strong group of leaders that will implement the strategy and take key decisions, whether that’s player contracts or player acquisitions.
“But all of that said, we do believe a director of football, a technical director is something that would add additional value and it’s a live conversation that we are having at the moment.”
