There's one exclusive property that seems to have gone under the radar
A stunning country house, built more than 250 years ago, and its grounds are set to open for public events. While the grand halls at Langar and Wollaton and abbeys at Rufford and Welbeck are well known, there's one exclusive property that seems to have gone under the radar.
"A lot of people don't know it's here and they can be quite local as well. There have been weddings for a good while now and they are quite successful but are still private events." Demands on maintaining the estate and the grounds, as you'd expect, are high. As well as the buildings, there's ancient trees, some of which are more than 600 years old.
"You get that sense it's a house as opposed to a hotel because there's that uniqueness in certain bedrooms but with all the mod cons still such as nice bathrooms," says Mr Eatherington. The hall itself boasts the west wing and the east wing. There's a morning room and a drawing room, which catch the morning sunshine. A library is filled with ancient-looking books - with an appeal not to touch some of them as they're so old. Throughout the rooms and hallways are oil paintings dating back hundreds of years.
"There's always that slight reservation you've got such an historical place and you come in with modern day practices, commercial ambitions, you've got to do those in a nice way. Trent Bridge had a good schooling in how you marry the history of the heritage and modern day practice. Here it's helped by having the owner, who is open to it.
During the 1760s the Suttons pulled down Cludd’s house and built the present-day mansion. At that time Norwood Park comprised around 50 family rooms, domestic offices, a brewhouse, granary, bottle, flow, bakehouse, slaughterhouse, stables, coach house, dog kennels and cow yard.
