CES reveal finds LG keen to continue its blistering 2021 OLED success

The new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor isn’t just about picture improvements. It also delivers an audio enhancement in the shape of the ability to upmix two-channel sources to 7.1.2 channels, rather than last year’s 5.1.2 channel implementation.... [+]The wall hanging-friendly G2s get an even sleeker design than their G1 predecessors, too. The width of their bezels shrinks from 10.2mm to 6.

Debates have been raging in the gaming world over whether LG’s previous switch down to 40Gbps-bandwidth HDMI ports really matters, so it seems like a sensible move for LG to just fully open the HDMI taps again. Interestingly, LG explicitly refers to 4K 120Hz 4:4:4 RGB 12-bit and 4K 120Hz Dolby Vision as being beneficiaries of the return to 48Gbps support.

There’s no price info on the G2 range yet, but we do know that it will be available in 55, 65, 77 83 and even 97-inch screen sizes. LG’s entry level OLED range for 2022 will be the A2 series. Available in 48, 55, 65 and 77 inch sizes, the A2’s still carry the Alpha 7 Gen 5 processor and latest webOS 22 smart system, but they swap the 120Hz panels found in all of LG’s other OLED series for a 60Hz panel. The idea being to give people who love movies but don’t care about gaming a more affordable way to combine their passion for film with an OLED screen.
