Readers support voting for the person not the party; comment on the power of words; are disappointed a Methodist church is leaving the congregation; wish more of America’s history is known by all; and advocate for stricter gun laws.
Clearly, then, the solution to these problems is to re-elect the same group of three who’ve been at the helm for the last eight years. And the party that has run Texas for the past 2 1/2 decades. Our democracy may not be yours or mine depending on whether it serves one’s interests. I would add that “racism” and “racist” have become all-purpose epithets, and likewise meaningless except in the mind of the speaker.Re: ”Megachurch votes to break from United Methodists,” Wednesday Metro & Business story.
Rosalyn Story is to be commended for bringing this story to our attention. Through this piece of America’s history, it continues to bring to mind that much of America’s story is hidden. The actions of many people who committed heinous acts of inhumanity on people of African descent are painful to learn, but it aids in the healing for the descendants on both sides of the actions.
If our society could only find common ground and an open mind to others thoughts and opinions, think how great we could be? Greatness lies in our ability see another ― one who doesn’t look like ourselves.If we want a safer Texas, we must implement stricter gun laws.
