Anna Weisz Rado, pictured here in 2005, survived the Holocaust and led a full and rich life in San Antonio. A reader reflects on the enduring power of her life story. As a lifelong San Antonio resident of a certain age, I tend to glance at the Life Tributes section and was moved to read the inspiring story of Holocaust survivor Anna Weisz Rado, who died last week.
Reading this obituary less than a week after our Thanksgiving celebrations, when antisemites including a Holocaust denier shared a table with a former president, I found Anna Weisz Rado’s story heartbreakingly poignant, uplifting and relevant. She personified Anne Frank’s belief that “in spite of everything... people are really good at heart.”Re: “Oh, fruitcake, how I … what’s so funny?,” Other Views, Cary Clack, Nov.
This article on the shortcomings of our airport was clear and factual. San Antonio is a wonderful tourist destination, a description that is the result of city leaders and business chambers seeking such. The price of their efforts is now the yoke that has prevented much of the city’s growth including that of the airport. Low wages, meager or no worker benefits have allowed mom-and-pop business growth to reap the rewards and has left this major city with a small business-friendly economy.
Wow. I had no idea, until I read Allison Beam’s opinion piece, that citizens could demand the right to place initiatives on their state ballots.
