Richmond-San Rafael Bridge reopens Saturday morning after emergencyI have a huge amount of empathy for a person who is considering ending her life. But having sat in the traffic jam for hours as I tried to navigate a route from San Anselmo to Oakland, I considered what other crises, mental or physical, could have resulted from the gridlock. Emergency vehicles unable to get through, a woman in labor, with complications, road rage with someone carrying a gun in the car … please plan ahead.

I’m glad the person in distress was saved. I just hope the person can get a mental health appointment.July 16 marks one year since our nation transitioned to 988, the easy-to-remember, nationwide mental health crisis helpline. This number connects callers with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline .
