Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, guaranteed health insurance for early retirees is now available through Covered California, along with generous federal subsidies. District-provided benefits that duplicate this coverage are a poor use of limited funds.
” , Michael McDaniel Jr. suggests that failing schools must face “hard choices that will lead to real change.” Mr. McDaniel’s logic is wrong. As a White resident of Oakland hills with a child in a charter school and one in traditional public school, I have seen this situation from multiple angles, up close. The proposed school closures will only exacerbate the real and consequential issues facing our district. They will have a devastating impact on our community.
