A Geneva letter to the editor: 'Facts Matter.' These words are part of the banner on the Daily Herald Opinion page.
"Facts Matter." These words are part of the banner on the Daily Herald Opinion page. I want to point out to Mr. Mark Michaels that he's got his facts wrong.
In his letter published on March 15, he states that"Catholics ... are opposed to cremation …" Not true. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church,"The Church permits cremation, provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body." It's about respect, Mr. Michaels. God gave us these bodies and He expects us to care for ours and others' with respect, whether they are not yet born, alive or dead. If the concern is for the use of space, this can be addressed by the use of a cremation niche or mausoleum.
I appreciate that people have their opinions, but when the facts are incorrect then the validity of their views is weakened.
