Letter: 'It is an insult to our hard working educators to have to spend their own money for supplies for their classrooms.'
A protester holds a flag in strong bitter cold winds as educators, parents and other public school advocates rally on the steps of the Utah Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022.I found the recent Tribune article onhaving to use their own money to supplement the measly amount our esteemed legislators have allocated to our public schools ridiculous and absurd.
Our state, according to recent disclosures, has one billion dollars sitting in a rainy day fund. That’s our money. Money of taxpayers who pay taxes on our food, gas, property, and even our social security income. It is an insult to our hard working educators to have to spend their own money for supplies for their classrooms. I’m pretty sure our money-hoarding legislators would gladly open the state’s coffers if any of them go along with the idiotic suggestion to arm our teachers.
