President Joe Biden on Thursday urged Congress to 'finally do something' on gun control as he called on lawmakers to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines as the nation reels from three mass shootings in the last three weeks.
House Democrats have put forward a package of bills that includes raising the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21, banning high-capacity ammunition magazines, and bar the sale of"ghost gun" kits without background checks.The measure passed the House Judiciary Committee on a 25-19 party-line vote shortly after Biden spoke, showing such measures are long-shots to find bipartisan support in the evenly divided Senate where 10 Republicans are needed to pass legislation.
