OSCAR nominees Lesley Manville and Ciarán Hinds are set to bring some star quality to East Dunbartonshire during filming for a new screen adaptation of an award-winning novel.Adapted from Midwinter Break by Bernard MacLaverty, it is the debut feature film of Olivier-winning British theatre director Polly Findlay.It centres on an Irish couple living in Scotland who take a trip to Amsterdam where their relationship reaches a crossroads.
Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop said he was sure cinema-going audiences would immediately connect to the “high-quality” drama when it hits cinemas. Published in 2017, Midwinter Break was written by Glasgow-based MacLaverty following a trip to Amsterdam 16 years previously. It was voted Book of the Year by several publications, including The Herald, and won the Bord Gáis Novel of the Year.Oscar-winner Colin Firth was last week pictured on the set of a new drama about the Lockerbie bombing.
