He also was Oklahoma State University’s biggest benefactor, with donations totaling $652 million over the years.that held memories Pickens loved most: His simple, white-frame childhood home, which was moved there in 2008; an imposing kennel, home to his hunting dogs; and a solitary grave of grandson Thomas Boone “Ty” Pickens IV, who died from a 2013 heroin overdose. About 9,000 feet below the ranch is oil that was never feasible to recover until recently, with advances in horizontal drilling.
