Leeds United's U21s could be proud of their efforts on Sunday despite losing 2-1 to Chelsea in the Premier League Cup
Leeds United Under-21s couldn’t claim a win over their Chelsea counterparts on Sunday afternoon, but Michael Skubala was delighted with the way his side responded after what has been a tough week. The Premier League Cup clash at the LNER Community Stadium in York was Leeds’ first outing since their 7-1 hiding at the hands of Crystal Palace at the same venue earlier in the month.
The Whites fell behind early in the contest as Deivid Washington, a teenager who commanded a £17m fee when Chelsea signed him from Brazilian outfit Santos in the summer, bagged the first goal of the game. Washington scored a second in the contest to ensure Chelsea went in at the break with a healthy lead.Skubala’s side rallied in the second half, though, shutting off the Blues’ supply lines and creating chances themselves as they looked to find a way back into the game.
“I thought we started a bit slow first half and got caught in behind with some deep runners. I thought second half they were really good. “After they went 2-0 down, they kept going and going and it just shows what a special group they can be when they are actually on full tilt which is amazing.”
