A popular Leeds pizza restaurant was handed a two-star hygiene rating after inspectors found a series of issues - including mould growing in the ice machine.
La Besi Restaurant, in Clarendon Road, near Woodhouse Moor, was told to clean multiple areas and train their staff. Leeds City Council inspectors, working on behalf of the Food Standards Agency, visited the restaurant on June 14. A level two hygiene rating means ‘improvement is necessary’. Inspectors told management: “Clean inside the ice machine, mould and bacterial growth.”They were also told to clean the kitchen floor, where they found grease and food debris, as well as the kitchen wall and ceiling around hot water heater, and the bar glass washer. They also needed to repair a leaking drawer to the hand wash basin.
The inspector has said staff’s food hygiene knowledge was “poor” and demanded more training. They were also told to stop storing raw meats above cooked/ready to eat foods and open foods in tinned cans, and to stop washing their hands in equipment sink. The restaurant’s allergen matrix needed to be reviewed and updated. “Information is a year old and some is incorrect,” inspectors wrote.
