The Lee Tipping murder trial is nearing its end with the judge expected to shortly wrap things up before the jury deliberates the charge against the accused
The jury in the trial of Lee Tipping, accused of murdering his parents at the family home near Preston, has been asked to weigh up the evidence in the case as they prepare to consider the verdicts.
The prosecution say Anthony and Patricia left the pub at 11pm and walked home, just a few minutes away. At 11.25pm, Patricia - or Tricia as she was known to friends - messaged her sister telling her she was home safely but Lee was being "a f*****g s**t". A few minutes later, she texted: "Please God, somebody help us."
Following his arrest, Tipping made a number of comments to police and mental health nurses at Guild Lodge, which he now says he made up. He said he had no experience of dealing with the police and felt he had to make up a story, or they would make one up for him.He said when he asked officers: "What am I looking at for self defence?" he was winding them up, as he was unhappy at being rough handled by them.
Dr Stephen Barlow was instructed by the prosecution to carry out further assessments on Tipping. Both doctors agreed he was suffering a long standing and enduring psychiatric illness, which led to some cognitive difficulties and problems in his interpersonal relationships.
