People of different cultural and religious backgrounds celebrating Thanksgiving together? I arrived at the event feeling intrigued and left full of şükür.

And looking around the room, it was moving to see that in action: people of different religions and backgrounds all under one roof, talking, joking, sharing. And not like in a staged stock photo or Hallmark commercial. But in a very real, natural, and welcoming way. A special and unique kind of Thanksgiving, one with those neighbors you never quite had the time to meet or much less spend time with, but always hoped to.
“But not the state,” he smiled. “Not where Atlanta is, from the country.” His name, he told me, was Manuchar Markoidze. “But I usually just tell people it’s Mark,” he says. “Most people have a hard time pronouncing it so, I just make it easy for them.”
