The skipper has eyes on lifting the Scottish Cup as he looks to overcome Rangers at the national stadium.

Lawrence Shankland insists he has an impressive win record at Hampden. Unfortunately they mostly came in front of a few hundred fans in the bottom tier of Scottish football with Queen’s Park.

He said: “Yeah, my Hampden record is brilliant actually. I used to play for Queen’s Park – I’ve won loads of games there! No, I’m kidding. My record there probably isn’t the best, but I’ve only been there two or three times in terms of the cups. Shankland’s last semi-final outing on the south side of Glasgow ended in frustration and regret as Hearts were rolled over by Rangers in the Viaplay Cup in November. Before that he was in the Dundee United side that lost 2-0 to Hibs in front of an empty National Stadium during the Covid season three years ago. Both left a bitter taste in the mouth.

“That could have been down to the game plan not quite going to plan or other things. It is something we can improve on and through our league form we have. We feel like we are going into it in a better state. Shankland has banged in 28 goals for Hearts this season and was backed to scoop Scotland’s player of the year award by Naismith this week with the Tynecastle boss pointing to the development of his skipper as an all-round forward. He was one of four different scorers in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Livingston.
