BREAKING NEWS | Lawrence police have been involved in a shooting in the area of 30th and Shadeland, according to their police chief.
According to Woodruff, at 3 p.m. near the intersection of 56th Street and Pendleton Pike officers located an occupied vehicle that had been reported stolen. The driver did not yield to the traffic stop attempt and led officers on a high-speed pursuit that terminated near 30th Street and Shadeland Avenue."The dynamics of what led to the officer-involved shooting very much remain under investigation," Woodruff said.
The person shot was struck one time and taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to Woodruff.In an update at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Woodruff announced the suspect in the chase died from the shooting. The investigation will take time and have Shadeland Avenue closed between 30th Street and 38th Street for multiple hours.
