UKFast boss and multi-millionaire Lawrence Jones, 55, denies two counts of rape
The multi-millionaire founder of tech firm UKFast 'stupefied' two young women with drugs and then raped them at his flat in Salford in in 1993, jurors were told.
The case concerned two allegations of rape against the defendant dating back to the early 1990s when Mr Jones was in his 20s and working in Manchester bars and hotels as a pianist, prosecutor Eloise Marshall KC told Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday. The woman recalled Mr Jones ‘manspreading towards her’ on the sofa although she could only remember 'snapshots' or 'freeze frames' from the night. She recalled feeling 'floaty, spaced out and not right at all', the court was told.
The defendant, the jurors were told, accused the young woman of doing this 'all the time' and said that she should not 'lead men on'. The woman recalled Mr Jones allegedly telling her: "So do I have to teach you a lesson are you just gonna let me f*** you." Woman A told police that after another 'memory blank' she recalled the defendant on top of her allegedly raping her. The woman said she couldn’t move and thought 'just let it be over'. She said she did not fight back and felt 'frozen'.
Woman B recalled that Mr Jones once told her 'look at you, you're gorgeous' and he told her to sniff from a medicine bottle with a clear liquid in it, according to the prosecution. She sniffed it and 'instantly felt really, really drunk', the court heard. "At the time, because of that confusion, she questioned whether it could be classified as rape, it had not been violent, she had not been pinned down and she did not try to push him off," said the KC.
