'The noise from the kebab shop is quite loud and disturbs both my and my daughter’s sleep'
A bid by a takeaway to serve late-night food has raised fears it could spark noise in a residential area where people are trying to sleep.
The Downtown Grill on Elizabeth Street in Blackpool has applied to the council for a premises licence to enable it to sell food until midnight on weekdays and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Previously the takeaway, which sits among houses, has closed at 11pm. A resident has objected to the application meaning a town hall licensing panel will be held on Monday, April 22 to resolve the issue.
In a submission to the hearing, the resident says: “The noise from the kebab shop is quite loud and disturbs both my and my daughter’s sleep. I don’t believe it should be permitted to open these late hours.”The police have called for conditions if the licence is granted which would mean food could only be sold as part of a delivery service after 11pm when the premises would also be closed to the public. The police have also asked for full CCTV coverage of the shop.
The applicant says they want to open later to meet demand for takeaway deliveries after 11pm when many people do not bother to cook for themselves. They add there will be notices on the premises asking customers to leave quietly,
