The HubbleSpaceTelescope has spotted a comet which at 80 miles across has been confirmed as the largest comet ever observed.
Astronomers have confirmed that a comet first spotted by the Hubble Space Telescope is the biggest ever identified.
NASA also notes that the massive ball of ice and dust is “barreling this way at 22,000 miles per hour from the edge of the solar system,” but adds that there’s nothing to worry about as there’s no chance of it coming close to Earth when it makes its closest pass of the sun in 2031.It's larger than Rhode Island and heading this way at 22,000 miles per hour, but don't worry – it won't get closer than a billion miles from the Sun, slightly farther out than Saturn: https://t.
Establishing accurate measurements was a challenging exercise as it was hard to distinguish between the comet’s solid nucleus and the huge dusty coma enveloping it.
