Landmark San Antonio Light sign shines again, 382 miles away in Lubbock
“It’s just so different,”said Cook, 54, a Tahoka native whose only ties to San Antonio were family vacations. “I mean, it’s historic and it’s a one off thing you know no one else is gonna have.”The original Light sign in San Antonio has been replaced by a smaller version to denote the newly renovated office building, which is now home to the Express-News.
But at night, the sign was at its most glorious. ‘L-I-G-H-T” in a gigantic vertical advertisement below a smaller, horizontal display reading “THE SAN ANTONIO” — all flashing in pale blue, outlined by orange.Atop it all sits a neon eagle — then the Hearst Corp.’s emblem — which features blue and green plumage.
