On a roadside layby at the summit of Parbold Hill there's a bench. It's the type of mesmerising spot where the minutes tick by and you soon realise you have been there for half an hour.
It also takes in the Parbold Hill Circular walking trail, famed for its scenic backdrops and stone 'Parbold bottle' landmark. In the village Mill Lane fuses into Station Road. It's the beating heart of the community with pockets of shops, independent businesses, cafes, pubs and bars dotted all along.
The historic Parbold Windmill building and tower, which was built in 1794 as a replacement for the nearby water mill on the banks of the River Douglas, has since been transformed into the Mill House gallery.
