Blackberries, wimberries, gooseberries, chestnuts, elderberries and rosehips grow in abundance across Lancashire
There's an unspoken rule in the world of foraging that your secret spots should remain exactly that: secret.
Gisburn Forest is a popular spot for foraging as well as other parts of the Ribble Valley such as Goosnargh and while walking from Abbeystead to Barley and also from Chatburn and Barrowford. Helmshore is also a good place to go. But my own experiences of foraging are much closer to home and hark back to the many happy memories I spent exploring the Darwen moors with my grandma.My late Grandma Purdy was as frugal as they come.
One of my favourite spots was along the track as you walk from the Sunnyhurst pub past the Waterman's Cottage and towards Earnsdale Reservoir. Just before the track bends to the right, down the hill towards the res, there's a stile heading uphill towards the tower where a huge collection of blackberry brambles grow.
