Marion Fellows has called on the UK Government to fast track the use of the cash for the welfare of Ukrainians left devastated by the Russian invasion.

A Lanarkshire MP says she wants proceeds from the multi-billion pound sale of Chelsea Football club to benefit the innocent victims of the war in Ukraine - wherever they are.

She said the need is all the greater because of Russia’s renewed offensive on the Ukrainian battlefield. She said: “It is taking far too long for this money to find its way to the people who need it, whether in Ukraine or across the world. Roman Abramovich sold Chelsea after he was sanctioned as part of the UK’s efforts to target Russian oligarchs following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.The English Premier League club was sold in May 2022 for £2.5 billion, then the highest price paid for a sports team.

North Lanarkshire has welcomed Ukrainian families into re-purposed homes in Coatbridge, and in Wishaw, which is in Ms Fellows’ constituency.
