The Crypt's two NBA tenants are in the house.
Tonight, your Los Angeles Lakers will square off against LA's second-favorite NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers, at both squads' mutual address, Crypto.com Arena downtown. The Clippers underwent a drastic roster reconfiguration late Monday night, when they traded a bunch of forwards and too many draft picks for James Harden, P.J. Tucker, and rookie center Filip Petrusev.
Well, Harden and Tucker will, anyway. Petrusev will probably mostly see the floor in San Bernardino County, while playing for the Clips' NBAGL affiliate, the Ontario Clippers.Several Clippers players have options on their contracts for 2024-25, which I assume will be very contingent on how the team performs in the playoffs . But before they even get to that point, they have several players worth poaching consideration for the Lakers.
People think of Mann as a"young" player with untapped upside, but he's 27, meaning he's very much in his prime right now. Prince's ability to guard fours is pretty helpful on this Laker roster, and the 6'5", 215-pound Mann just couldn't really do that. I would probably try to hold onto Prince even when dealing for Mann. So he'd probably play more at the three, and perhaps as Austin Reaves' primary backup at shooting guard.
Maybe Rui Hachimura, who seems to have lost Darvin Ham's trust already, could be shipped out in exchange for Mann and Amir Coffey's contract?Okay now hear me out. At this point in their respective careers, Paul George is just a better defender than James, and his ability to spread the floor might make him a better fit alongside Anthony Davis. A career 48.2% shooter from three-point land on 6.7 tries, George is actually nailing an insane 46.
That said, George seems to get hurt as frequently as James despite being six years younger, and he doesn't seem to be the locker room uniter James has been proven to be. From a pure basketball perspective, the George fit next to Davis is cleaner. And we know the Palmdale native wanted to be a Laker long before he was a Clipper.
