Lake County will have $90 million summer construction projects throughout the county this year, aimed at reducing congestion, improving safety and helping the environment.
Not only will the timing of the lights be adjusted to make traffic move more efficiently, Carr said the stretch of roadway will be the first in the county to have flashing yellow arrows enabling people to make a left turn safely rather than wait because the arrow is red.
“Using technology to keep lights green longer means people can get to work and get home faster,” she said. “We spend less time in traffic and less time idling. It helps the environment, and puts money in people’s pockets.” Carr said adding dual left-turn lanes and right-turn lanes at all corners of the intersection of Hunt Club Road and Washington Street in Gurnee is another example of smarter roads. There will be similar improvements at the intersection of Gilmer and Midlothian roads in Hawthorn Woods.
Approximately 48 miles of lanes on county roads will be resurfaced this year. Car said in the email the cost of those 11 projects will be slightly less than $22.4 million. Four of them are in the Waukegan area.
