Man City are currently in Premier League action against Liverpool at Anfield
Kyle Walker got his Manchester City side off to a strong start at Anfield before the game with Liverpool had even kicked off.
The England international was captaining his side due to Ruben Dias being named on the bench for the game. Explaining his decision to drop the centre-back, Pep Guardiola said: "Having travelled three-to-four central defenders I decided for Manu with his speed - he is facing one of the fastest players !"
In the centre circle with Virgil van Dijk and referee Michael Oliver, Walker was granted choice of ends after winning the coin toss and opted to make Liverpool attack their famous Kop end in the first-half. Although it left City to attack their own fans for the opening 45 minutes, it also forced their opponents into unusual territory as they are used to attacking that end during the second-half of matches.
"If I play and I win the coin toss, I'm flipping them," Walker told Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE in the build-up to the game. Scott McTominay also did the same thing when Manchester United visited Anfield back in December. Despite winning five league titles and playing in nine league games at Anfield, the 33-year-old has never won at the ground. With City chasing the title and challenged with overcoming the atmosphere as well as the emotions of the day, turning Liverpool at kick-off was just a small win on a day of fine margins.
