The Chancellor said there was 'more to come' on tax cuts
The Chancellor is expected to prioritise bringing in greater tax relief for families when he sets out his review of the tax system in a bid to illustrate his economic plans go beyond the highest earners.
Mr Kwarteng’s promise to cut more taxes was quickly followed by new MRP polling of more than 6,000 adults, which showed the Tories could lose up to 146 seats at the next election, with the likes of former prime ministerTory MP Andrew Bridgen said the next election will “almost certainly be decided on the public perceived success or failure of the announcements made by the Government over the last two weeks”.
In a further sign of Tory unease, former deputy prime minister Damian Green warned “there’s more to politics than the economy” as he suggested that with a general election just two years away “things need to happen quickly”.
