The Rock Hall of Famers brought their final tour to Cleveland and had area fans rocking all night with classic hits, explosions and ziplines
Do ya remember when rock and roll was unabashedly, unashamedly and even proudly over the top? I’m talking signature makeup, elaborate costumes - probably involving leather - classic which-side-of-the-arena-can-get-louder contests, separate guitar, bass and drum solos, rising stages, scores of guitar and bass picks chucked into the crowd, and more pyro and explosions than a Michael Bay action...
The tour has not been without controversy. YouTube is littered with video evidence asserting that Stanley has been lip-syncing at various points in the show and that the band uses backing vocal tracks, but there were no obvious “Hey, where’s that voice coming from?” moments to take fans out of the moment.
Thayer gave us an extended guitar solo with rockets shooting out of his mirrored Flying V to destroy spaceships projected on the 16 octagonal hanging screens , and Singer’s drum kit rose 15 feet as he bashed away during his solo. The seemingly near-sellout crowd was all in for the show, the swagger, the bravado and all the explosions. Unlike many of their Boomer peers , the Kiss crowd was full of the expected gray-bearded dudes and leather-panted soccer moms and grandmas, but there were also many millennials and younger kids rocking out with their parents and generations of friends and families sporting Kiss makeup and some dude in full Heath-Ledger Joker makeup.
