Original MJ actress Kirsten Dunst has admitted she hasn't seen SpiderManNoWayHome just yet, but plans to watch it with her young son. 'I know I have to... everyone's freaking out. I will. I'll eventually watch it.'
Actress Kirsten Dunst admits she has yet to see Marvel's latest film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Dunst played Mary Jane Watson, who was the love interest of Peter Parker , in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000's. While Dunst had already established a lucrative acting career prior to the Spider-Man films, her role in the trilogy launched her into international stardom.
During the making of Spider-Man: No Way Home, rumors circulated as to whether Dunst would reprise her role as Mary Jane in the latest MCU project. Although the actress was quick to deny the rumors, she did express her openness to coming back to the role, saying,"I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I would never say no to something like that." The film did, however, see Dunst's Spider-Man co-star, Maguire, reprise his role as the web-slinging superhero.
"I know I have to. I know Tobey's in it and it's such a huge surprise and everyone's freaking out. I will. I'll eventually watch it. You know, I'll watch it with my son, because he's starting to get into Spider-Man stuff. There's, like, a little-kid version of Spider-Man that he watches, so maybe he'll watch it with me."
After Dunst and Maguire's Spider-Man era, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone took up the reigns in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. While that saga only latest two total films, it still garnered enough of a fan base to launch a #MakeTASM3 campaign on Twitter following Spider-Man: No Way Home, with fans begging for the sequel. For now, Holland and Zendaya are now the current faces behind Spider-Man couple Peter Parker and MJ.
Dunst has previously said that being part of the Spider-Man franchise is a "cool legacy," which is nice to hear. Indeed, she was part of the movies that essentially started it all, and watching the latest Marvel film with her son seems like a beautiful way to pass the fandom on to a new generation.
