Louis Otway screamed 'I'm innocent' from the dock as he was jailed - he wasn't
A 'key conspirator' in a murder plot which claimed the life of Aya Hachem has had a desperate bid for freedom dismissed by a judge.
Otway, a 42-year-old drug dealer of Clitheroe Road in Longsight, Manchester, launched an appeal against his convictions and the case was heard by the Court of Appeal Criminal Division on Friday. Lord Justice William-Davis, Mr Justice Jay and Mrs Justice Dias presided over the case.He was represented by Alan Gardner KC and the Crown by Timothy Cray KC, the prosecution and defence counsel at the trial.
Lord Justice William-Davis said they accepted the summing up could have dealt with the issues more 'felicitously'. "We have come to the conclusion that the convictions were not unsafe. We shall take the step of granting leave to appeal, but for all the reasons we have given, we dismiss that appeal."
