Ken Paxton's latest lawsuit is taking aim at General Motors over allegedly stealing data from millions of customers.

Paxton and the state are suing GM over allegedly installing technology in more than 14 million vehicles that collected drivers’ private data which was later sold to insurance companies without the consent of vehicle owners.into several automakers including GM, Mitsubishi, Kia, Honda, Subaru in June over similar allegations.

GM has allegedly installed technology in most cars after 2015 advertised as safety features, but also collects, records, analyzes, and transmits highly detailed driving data, according to theThe automaker tracked when drivers started driving, ended drives, vehicle speed, driver and passenger seatbelt status and the distance drivers went during each trip, according to the lawsuit.

“Companies are using invasive technology to violate the rights of our citizens in unthinkable ways. Millions of American drivers wanted to buy a car, not a comprehensive surveillance system that unlawfully records information about every drive they take and sells their data to any company willing to pay for it.”

GM allegedly hid that it was taking drivers’ data by using “lengthy and detailed disclosures to obfuscate its deceptive and harmful conduct,” the suit said. GM also tried to get drivers to go along with the disclosures by showing drivers various “warning screens” which said that declining the services could lead to the de-activation of safety features.It’s one of many ongoing legal battles Paxton is pursuing against big-name companies.

The Fort Worth city council on Tuesday approved a $9.6 million settlement in three whistleblower lawsuits filed against the city by former employees, including former Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald.The temporary restraining order, granted Monday by a Travis County judge, stops the Texas Education Agency from releasing new grades for campuses and districts – at least for now..
